Ms. Mercedes Cohan has been an independent instru
ctor teaching in Portland, Oregon since 1990. Her unique type of teaching
has earned her a reputation in a field where traditional approaches leave many
students feeling lost and disoriented. As the coordinator for the Spanish Program at
Oregon Health and Science University, Mercedes has developed an interactive system
whereby teacher and student operate in a unified fashion. Her efforts have brought her
continual recognition including the Oregon 1996 Rose Award for Outstanding service.
Additionally, she teaches Spanish classes for the Lake Oswego Parks and Recreation
and Tualatin Hills Parks and Recreation.
Mercedes has lived, traveled, and studied in many countries. Among her pursuits, Ms. Cohan has worked with the Spanish speaking community teaching English as a second language (ESL). She is also developing multi-media formats, which will allow her to bring to the public the skills and techniques she has acquired along the way.
